Apparently for Gary and me, that whole 15 minutes of fame thang has gone into overtime. The reporter who discovered we were both (separately and unbeknownst to each other) trying to run every road in Marlborough and wrote this April 3rd story about it called us after we crossed the finish line for a quick “how’d it go?” interview. (As you can see from our finish times, I talked to the reporter a looooong time after the super-speedy Gary.)Here’s the article–what fun! And note to Gary: you are my idol! 03:00:07!!!! WOW!

Marlborough roadsters finish marathon

BOSTON — The two Marlborough marathoners who are both trying to run every road in their home city completed the course from Hopkinton to Boston yesterday. Christine Johansen, 40, finished her first Boston Marathon in 4:09:55. “It was the best day ever, even though I was beaten by a guy in a cheeseburger costume,” Johansen said, laughing.
Gary Cattarin, 48, ran his fifth Boston in 3:00:07 and thought the crowd was possibly the biggest he’s seen.
“The weather was great,” Cattarin said. “It was a good day.”
There were tough moments.
Both runners said that they got warm at certain points along the course. After waiting in the chilly Athletes’ Village, Cattarin said he got hot early in the race and made a push to drink a lot of water.
Johansen said the hills in Newton slowed her down a bit. Cattarin admitted that he didn’t feel like he got into a groove.
But the runners are close to fulfilling their goal of running all of the Marlborough roads after both started in January, unaware of what the other was doing. Cattarin is at about 85 percent; Johansen has run close to 70 percent of the streets.
“I feel great,” Johansen said shortly after finishing Boston. “I mean, I can’t walk, but I’m a happy girl.”
