…but you can follow my progress on Marathon Monday via cell phone 🙂
Simply text the word RUNNER to 345678 using your US mobile phone. (No, it doesn’t have to be ALL CAPS. I tried both lowercase and uppercase and both work.)
You will receive an sms text response that says:
Rply w/ a bib number (eg 1012) to rcv that runner’s progress
When you get that message, reply 24777
You should then receive a confirmation text that reads:
Boston Marathon Alerts. U’ll receive msgs at 10K, 1/2, 30K & Finish for bib 24777 (CHRISTINE M. JOHANSEN).
You can repeat this process for as many runners as you want apparently–you just need to know their bib #s (which you can search for here, if a runner you care about hasn’t been broadcasting his/her number as loudly and/or as often as yours truly).
Pretty darn cool, huh? I totally dig this technology stuff! 🙂 You can read more info about AT&T Athlete Alert on the BAA website.
Bye for now!

Eeeek!! So cool.
I figured I’d set it up now, so I don’t forget. Also, great procrastination technique–being sure I get updates on your progress in the Marathon is much more fun than writing a paper….
Hah! I always knew we were kindred spirits, dear niece of mine…why do you think I posted that right now, instead of say this weekend or next? I mean, it’s not like it has to be done RIGHT NOW. But I *did* need a break from the press release I am writing! 🙂
